Privacy Policy

This is a translation of the Japanese original for convenience. If there is any difference between the versions, the Japanese version prevails.

The World Urban Legends Operations Office (the "Operator") handles users' information on World Urban Legends (the "Service") as follows.

1. Information We Collect

  • The email address you use to log in
  • Your profile (display name and ID)
  • Posts, comments, images, likes and follows (before images are stored, location and other embedded data are removed)
  • The IP address and browser information (User-Agent) at the time you post or comment
  • The content of reports
  • The content of removal requests, and the name, email address and IP address of the requester
  • Analytics information (pages viewed, type of browser and device, approximate region, etc.; see section 4)
  • Cookies (to remember your login and your display language)

2. Purposes of Use

  • Providing the Service (login, showing posts and comments, etc.)
  • Preventing misuse such as impersonation and spamming
  • Handling reports and removal requests
  • Responding as required by law, such as to requests for disclosure of sender information
  • Analyzing usage and improving the Service
  • Responding to inquiries

3. Provision to Third Parties

The Operator does not provide personal information to third parties without your consent, except where required by law (including responding to requests for disclosure of sender information or requests from courts, police or similar authorities).

4. Analytics (Sending User Information to External Parties)

The Service uses Google Analytics by Google LLC to understand how it is used. When you open a page of the Service, the following information is sent to Google:

  • Recipient: Google LLC
  • Information sent: the URL of the page viewed, the referrer, browser and device information, an identifier stored in a cookie, and your IP address (which Google uses to estimate your approximate region)
  • Purpose: to count visits and viewing trends and use them to improve the Service

For how Google handles this information, see https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. To stop sending it, you can use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout).

5. External Services for Storage and Processing

The Service uses the following providers to store and process information. All of them are located outside Japan.

  • Supabase (database, login and image storage; data is kept in a data center in Singapore)
  • Vercel (site delivery; a US company)
  • Resend (sending login emails; a US company)
  • Google (analytics; a US company)

These providers manage information under the laws of their countries and their own policies. Information on each country's personal data protection system is available on the website of Japan's Personal Information Protection Commission (https://www.ppc.go.jp/).

6. Retention Periods

  • IP addresses and browser information at the time of posting or commenting: kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically
  • IP addresses of removal requests: kept for 90 days, then deleted automatically
  • The content, name and email address of removal requests, and the content of reports: kept as a record of how they were handled
  • Accounts and posts: kept until you ask us to delete them

7. Security

The Operator takes measures such as encrypting communications and restricting access to prevent unauthorized access to or leakage of information.

8. Requests for Disclosure, Correction or Deletion

If you want your information disclosed, corrected or deleted, or your account deleted, contact tetsuya.chiba@support-penguin.com from the email address you use to log in. We will respond after confirming your identity.

9. Changes to This Policy

The Operator may change this Policy when necessary. The revised Policy takes effect when it is posted on the Service.
